who are they, then
FAKING CLEVER are something of a generational oddity. Like the baby born of Australian power-pop's second marriage, decades younger than the next child - but is part of the family no less. The big siblings in the 20th century cohort have taken Faking Clever under their wings, so their sound is unmistakably inspired by the traditions of Australia’s 80s/90s underground.
Faking Clever have been making noise on Sydney stages for three years now, but their origins trace back to the town of Young on Wiradjuri Country in NSW, where songwriter Aggie B. Steele (guitar, lead vocals) and brother Cameron Steele (drums) honed their musical abilities together before setting off for the state capital. There they met kindred spirit and Central Coast expat Toby Dowdell, the most acrobatic bass player in the world.
