Richard Ortega López is not simply a musician. He is a conductor of experience, shaping the music in real time, drawing the crowd into the performance, and commanding the room with the kind of authority that only comes from a lifetime inside the music. A graduate of Havana’s Escuela Nacional de Arte, Ortega spent years on piano with Azúcar Negra and Maykel Blanco y Salsa Mayor, two of Cuba’s most celebrated ensembles, touring Europe, Canada, and Jamaica.
