Shanghai-born and Melbourne-based guitarist Yemo Wang brings a relaxed, lyrical approach to the Great American Songbook. A recent graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Yemo draws on the jazz guitar tradition while shaping each tune with fresh ideas and conversational improvisation. Influenced by artists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Fred Hersch, Ted Greene, and Ben Monder, his playing balances warmth, space, and melodic clarity. Yemo has performed across Melbourne with a wide range of musicians and has worked alongside artists including Kristin Berardi, Julien Wilson, and Angela Davis. His playing reflects a deep love for the jazz canon, approached with curiosity rather than nostalgia, allowing old stories to unfold in new and unexpected ways. The performance will feature classic songs from the Great American Songbook, reimagined in an intimate setting with plenty of room for interaction, groove, and spontaneity.
