Jazz Singers in Practice Workshop - October 2026

Jazz Singers’ Jam Night is proud to host and present a monthly Singers in Practice workshop prior to every Jazz Singers’ Jam Night This will be a monthly session to build skills, confidence, and community. Whether a vocalist, teacher, emerging or professional, is looking to improve their skills or simply come and observe, Singers in Practice offers practical, real-world guidance for singers at any level. Each monthly workshop will be led by a different professional musician. This month, Matthew Teakle on guitar will share his extensive knowledge and practical experience of working with singers. Matthew Teakle, originally a Cello player, is a Brisbane-based Guitarist who is a popular accompanist for many singers. He is also involved in many of his own projects. He studied Jazz Guitar at the Queensland Conservatorium and has enjoyed performing with many Jazz, Fusion and Pop ensembles around Brisbane. At this workshop, Matthew will get you singing and will offer guidance to enhance your experience! Are you a jazz vocalist looking to sharpen your skills or dip your toe into the scene? Some of the topics that will be covered include: • Bandstand etiquette • Leading a band • Voice leading & phrasing • Arranging on the fly • Rhythm, tempo & feel • Storytelling & interpretation • Jazz language & charts • Improvisation, technique & more! $22 for the vocal workshop session or $34 (which includes a discounted $12 seat at Jazz Singers’ Jam Night that evening, whether you’re singing or just soaking it all in).
