the word from the venue
The Motley Bauhaus and Rat Child present an intimate winter series showcasing the musical works of Naarm creatives to raise money for 'Hope and Haven for Refugees Organisation'...
On 9 June 2026, 'HOPE AND HAVEN for Refugees Organisation' issued the dire warning that - due to a severe shortage of donations and a lack of secure emergency funding - after more than three years of continuous humanitarian work amid war, hunger, and displacement they will be forced to shut down all of their humanitarian services completely, in just 60 days!
'HOPE AND HAVEN' is a grassroots humanitarian organisation that aids Sudanese refugees (and internally displaced people) seeking safety from war in Sudan, Chad and Uganda by providing essential medical care, food, and supplies to restore hope and rebuild lives.
SUDAN is enduring one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world today. Families across the country — especially in Darfur and the White Nile areas — are facing famine, displacement, and deadly disease outbreaks.
'HOPE AND HAVEN' are on the ground every day running multiple community kitchens, medical clinics, a cholera emergency response and distributing food packages. The gap left by this organisation's closure could be disastrous for those who have come to rely on their services.
BUT - there is a small window of hope, if they can raise $30,000 by early August they may be able to continue their noble and necessary work and maintain this established network of care. That is where we come in…
The Motley Bauhaus (carlton) and naarm-local artist Rat Child have teamed up to curate a winter series of performances to raise money for this cause. All artists and the venue have offered their services free of charge so that, together, we can raise as much money as possible to send directly to H&H and assist in the global effort to ensure their continuing these much needed programs.
Please join us over any or all of the three events to be a part of this collective effort to save 'HOPE AND HAVEN' and support the Sudanese people as they face seemingly endless war and the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

This event is taking place on the stolen land of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. This land was stolen through a violent genocide which continues today. When we gather together on this country we endeavor to do so with deep respect, standing in solidarity with the first peoples of this land, honoring their Elders, ancestors, culture and connection to the land, air and waterways - as well as their ongoing fight for justice, sovereignty, self determination and land back.
