Cult Brazilian Extreme Metal Legends SARCOFAGO Announce First-Ever Australian Shows – August 2026 Australia will finally witness one of the most influential names in extreme metal when Brazilian cult pioneers Sarcófago make their long-awaited Australian debut in August 2026. Led by original bassist Geraldo Minelli and performing alongside his band The Laws, the project will bring the raw, uncompromising sound that helped define early black and death metal to Australian audiences for the first time. The performances will take place in Sydney and Melbourne, delivering a ferocious set drawn from the band’s landmark catalogue. Formed in 1985 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Sarcófago became one of the most influential underground acts in extreme metal history. Their groundbreaking 1987 debut album I.N.R.I. remains widely regarded as a foundational release in the evolution of both black and death metal. The band’s raw sound, chaotic intensity, and provocative imagery helped shape the global extreme metal movement and inspired countless artists across the genre. Fronted in its early years by Wagner 'Antichrist' Lamounier, who briefly performed with Sepultura, Sarcófago quickly gained notoriety for pushing musical and visual boundaries. Their aggressive style and pioneering aesthetic — including corpse paint, spikes, and leather — later became synonymous with the Scandinavian black metal scene. Across their career, the band released a series of influential records that cemented their cult status. Albums such as Rotting, The Laws of Scourge, Hate, and The Worst expanded their sound from primitive black metal toward more technical and aggressive death metal territory. The band officially disbanded in 2000 after releasing the Crust EP, but their legacy has continued to grow worldwide. Today, Sarcófago’s influence is widely acknowledged across the global metal scene, including among Norwegian pioneers such as Mayhem and Satyricon, as well as many modern extreme metal artists. The current live project began in São Paulo in 2019 with the goal of reviving the brutal essence of Sarcófago for new generations of fans. The lineup was originally formed by producer Michel Crisaor alongside musicians Rodrigo Malevolent and former Sarcófago guitarist Fábio Jhasko, who performed on The Laws of Scourge. In 2021, founder Geraldo Minelli officially joined the project, bringing an authentic connection to the band’s original era. Since then, the band has performed extensively in Brazil and Europe, including a major European tour featuring more than 20 shows. With renewed momentum and a growing international following, the project continues to celebrate the enduring legacy of Sarcófago. In Winter 2026, Australian fans will finally experience this legendary catalogue live. Australian Tour Dates 20 August 2026 Marrickville Bowling Club Sydney, NSW 21 August 2026 The Tote Melbourne, VIC These exclusive shows promise a relentless celebration of old-school death and black metal, honouring one of the most influential bands to emerge from Brazil’s legendary underground scene.
