FREE ENTRY | $20 CHICKEN & EGGPLANT PARMAS | $10 PINTS OF MOUNTAIN GOAT Kick those Monday blues to the curb at Social Sanctuary – your weekly night of free live music at NSC. We've lined up a stellar roster of your fave local artists and some exciting new talents breezing through town! This week Maeve Grieve, GUTHRIE and Planet:Pain are stopping by for a show. Maeve Grieve is a Melbourne based singer, songwriter and guitarist blending jazz, folk and alternative rock into a distinctive, genre defying sound. Originally from Tasmania, her music pairs intricate guitar work with evocative, narrative driven Songwriting. Her debut EP Midnight Commute (released November 13, 2024) resonated strongly with audiences, with its launch show at The Gaso Upstairs selling out and the release receiving airplay and features across Melbourne and national radio. A first-class graduate of the Jazz and Improvisation Honours program at The University of Melbourne, Maeve’s artistry is shaped by deep musical study and fearless innovation. Her work has been recognised with significant accolades, including the 2023 New Frontiers Award at the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival and the 2024 LUMINA Composition Award. Her career gathered further momentum in 2025. She was named a national finalist in the Emerging Artist category at the Australian Women in Music Awards, embarked on her first solo East Coast tour, shared the stage with Liz Stringer at the Corner Hotel, and later headlined the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival. In 2026, she will make her debut at two of the country’s leading folk festivals, Port Fairy Folk Festival and the National Folk Festival. With a captivating live presence and a distinct artistic voice, Maeve continues to push the boundaries of songwriting and performance, establishing herself as one of the most compelling emerging artists in Australian music. Guthrie is the music project of Naarm-based artist, T. After co-producing their first EP (‘Incubator’) with Gordi in 2022, Guthrie played festivals such as St Kilda, Gaytimes & Brunswick Street MF and supported the likes of Didirri, John Floriani & Mia Wray. Since then Guthrie has been working on a new collection of songs which will form their debut album set to release in 2026. Previous work has received praise from Triple J, Pilerats, Trouble Juice, The Music and Unearthed. Planet:Pain is a new home for songs written by Jackson Phelan (RAT!hammock) - they are kind of country but not in a yeehaw way. The songs are mostly stories - lots about parking lots and smoking and gainful employment. Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat. Our show is being held on the lands of the Wurundjeri People and we wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of this land we are gathered on. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities that may join us for our show. THIS SHOW IS STRICTLY 18+ Northcote Social Club strives to create a safe space that everyone can enjoy. Crowd surfing & dangerous behaviour will result in removal from the venue.
